Back in the 1800s, Britain was home to a very large shoemaking industry and companies such as William Green and Son played an active part in this. The Green’s family-run firm continued to trade under its basic name until the 1930s when ‘brand names’ became the latest big thing to come along. It was during this time that the company decided to condense their standard title and create the far catchier ‘Grenson’ moniker.

Grenson supplied footwear to many British soldiers throughout the Second World War and even invented a special fur-lined boot. This was purposely designed for pilots and featured a unique removable leg section. The whole point of this was to improve the wearer’s chances of running away if he was to be shot down behind enemy lines!

Times have certainly changed since William Green and Son first opened the doors on their business over two-hundred years ago; however, some things remain very much the same. Customers still want attractive, good quality footwear and many will prefer to buy it from a well-established and highly-respected shoemaker like Grenson.

The tradition of Grenson footwear still lives on today, but their current collection has a far more modern slant to it. Grenson’s top-end materials and superior craftsmanship remain very much in place, yet they have made some significant adaptations to their range. Rather than dwelling on strictly traditional British shoe designs, they have used these as a basis for creating a much more contemporary collection of men’s footwear.

Grenson’s ‘Rushden’ range is proving to be particularly popular with many modern and style-conscious men. It manages to encompass all of the best features of British shoemaking without being in any way old-fashioned, stuffy or ‘fuddy-duddy’.
