Designer Giorgio Armani created his amazing fashion empire from very humble roots indeed.
He was born in Piacenza, Italy in 1934, he grew up with his sister and brother, and then went on to study medicine and photography, but decided to leave university to concentrate on his main interest – fashion.
Armani mens clothes were a long way in the future, though, and Armani jeans were not even a twinkle in his eye. Yet Giorgio has gone on to become Italy's most successful designer, worth $4.1 (£2.1) billion in 2007.
He began that scintillating career and the road to the Armani clothes and Armani jackets empire we know today as a humble merchandiser at Milan’s famous department store, La Rinascente.
He soon moved on, though, becoming as a fashion designer for Nino Cerruti. He was already showing the promise that would lead Armani mens clothes and Armani jeans to be a world-leading brand, and became a freelance designer for various companies.
This experience resulted in an exceptionally rich evolution of his style – it’s not surprising that today, Armani clothes include Armani jackets, and Armani shirts.
At this time, Armani dreamed up the soft-shouldered suit silhouette that remains a staple of today's Armani mens clothes designs. Armani clothes are renowned for retaining their popularity and elegance, and owe their success to this relatively early broadening of his Armani clothes designing talents.
After several years as a freelance designer of Armani clothes, Giorgio opened a company with his friend Sergio Galeotti in 1975. They founded Giorgio Armani S.p.A. and launched an Armani mens clothes and women’s ready-to-wear line which proved immediately popular. The Armani mens clothes range included Armani jackets, Armani shirts and Armani jackets that appealed to men because of their classy styling and fashionable appeal.
The appeal of Armani clothes broadened even further in 1980, when he provided Armani mens clothes for actor Richard Gere in the smash hit movie American Gigolo. Men who had never even heard of Armani clothes or Armani jeans were stunned by the look of the Armani men’s clothing in the film, where they provide extra cachet to the star’s extensive wardrobe.
One of the key attractions to the range of Armani clothes in the movie were the unstructured Armani jackets, which revolutionised Eighties men’s fashion with their soft and flattering shapes and good looks. Men snapped up Armani mens clothes with alacrity.
Armani clothes were on a roll that would never slow down. Perhaps that is due to the attention that Giorgio still pays to his ranges of Armani mens clothes – all Armani jeans, Armani jackets and Armani shirts reflect his continuing personal attention.
One area in which Armani clothes excel is fabrics – Armani mens clothes are without exception finished in superb materials sourced around the world and cut to Giorgio’s exacting standards.
Naturally, such superb tailoring and fabrics do not come cheap – but many discerning men will admit that’s also part of the appeal of Armani mens clothes. Armani jeans, for instance, cost over £100, but teamed with Armani shirts and Armani jackets create a timeless, casual yet elegant look that will take a well-dressed man through the day and into the evening.
In the early days, England was an important reference for the Armani clothes and Armani shirts designer: "It was virtually the most important centre for inspiration," he said.
"I remember seeing some yellow cardigans in a small boutique and everyone thought I was insane. Yellow cardigans were what the Duke of Windsor was about, they were not something for the average man. The entire idea of such clothing was so outré, so elitist... Very, very English."
Today in his Seventies, the head of Armani mens clothes shows no sign of slowing down or losing his sure touch in Armani clothes. Giorgio oversees the company’s strategic direction as well as the design and creativity that goes into his Armani jeans, Armani jackets and Armani shirts.
It’s more than 30 years since he started running his own label, but Armani clothes have also come a long way. Giorgio presides over a whole range of collections – many including Armani mens clothes – including his signature Giorgio Armani line, Giorgio Armani Privé, Armani Collezioni, Emporio Armani, AJ | Armani Jeans, A/X Armani Exchange, and Armani Juniors.
