Fashion Week: Latest AW17 Trends
After reviewing the latest designer collections that featured in the recent fashion weeks, it is apparent that the forthcoming season will be filled with androgynous vibes, as on-trend clothing for Autumn/Winter challenges the definition of gender by blurring the lines between what is deemed masculine and what is perceived as femininity. One way in which designers have opted to challenge gender this season is by taking inspiration from sportswear, eighties power dressing and the waifish, minimalist look of the nineties. Both menswear and womenswear featured paperbag-waists, drawstrings and long tailored coats and suits, with gingham checks and tweed being popular choices for prints and fabric in womenswear. Free-flowing and loose silhouettes also dominated the runway, with oversized puffa sleeves, wide trousers and layered ruffled maxi-dresses featuring prominently in womenswear.
